New York Law School Replaces Network Core And Upgrades Edge Infrastructure With Foundry Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and NEW YORK – (February 14, 2007) – Foundry Networks®, Inc. (NASDAQ: FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that its switching solutions were selected by the New York Law School, one of the oldest independent law schools in the U.S., for their campus core-to-edge network redesign. Throughout history, its graduates founded many prominent law firms, served with distinction on federal, state and local benches, and have been major leaders of the bar, business and government. New York Law School's Foundry-powered network is one of their essential technological foundations required to help retain and attract the nation's top students and faculty members.

Similar to many other institutions of higher learning, New York Law School's original campus network infrastructure was rapidly approaching the end of a natural life cycle. As the information and communication needs of their students and staff evolved from access to applications, the Institution saw an urgent need for a major redesign and redeployment in their dense urban campus network. In order to maximize performance and protect their investment, each building within New York Law School has the capability to be linked with multiple 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) connections in which Foundry's FastIron® SuperX convergence-ready edge switches connect to a 10GbE core comprised of the award-winning BigIron® RX series of backbone switches. New York Law School is also in the process of deploying additional FastIron Series of Power over Ethernet (PoE) switches in preparation for their next generation Voice over IP (VoIP) system in order to maximize efficiency and lower telecommunications costs.

John Southard, chief technology officer for New York Law School said, "To us reliability and cost-performance ratios are extremely important, but so is adherence to open standards, advanced R&D and technology innovation. Foundry Networks addressed all these requirements while maintaining a strong partnership with us. Today we are partway through our journey to build out our new infrastructure while we strategically transition out of our existing legacy network. Foundry's product performance and quality, high level of customer service and extraordinary sense of urgency has resulted in a strong foundation for our new infrastructure. We now feel well positioned to take advantage of current and future breakthroughs in networking, application, communications and security advances."

"We are very pleased to be a fundamental part of New York Law School's advanced network infrastructure," said Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager for Foundry's enterprise business unit. "Foundry's solutions provide New York Law School with the scalability, reliability and performance needed for their constantly growing bandwidth requirements and communications demands of their diverse user base."

The BigIron RX Series family includes three chassis models, each supporting redundant management, switch fabric and power supply components with a full complement of switching and routing functions. It is designed to meet the needs of enterprise customers with starting configurations of 24 10/100/1000 Mbps ports in 4 RU space to 64 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports all using common technology. The introduction of the 48 port 10/100/1000 Mbps module offers an ideal solution for high-performance environments, including Internet exchanges, data centers and high-performance computing installations, which will be able to take advantage of this massive density and horsepower.

Foundry's FastIron SuperX Layer 2/3 modular switch is purpose built to deliver high performance Gigabit Ethernet, 10-Gigabit Ethernet, and advanced networking solutions for tomorrow's mission critical and today's increasing security needs. It is built with high-performance ASICs to deliver high-density Gigabit Ethernet that can include Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 10-Gigabit Ethernet. The FastIron SuperX Series delivers a new level of flexibility, greater reliability, advanced end-user and networking security, extensive redundancy, and a new level of high performance. Additionally, it provides customers an increased return on investment and a much lower total cost of ownership for both enterprises and service providers.
