Foundry Ethernet and Wireless Systems Chosen by One of America's Largest School Systems for Delivery of Voice Over IP, Distance Learning, Internet Services and Wireless Access to Students and Faculty
San Jose, Cali., October 19th, 2005 – Foundry Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY) a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching, routing and application Web switching, today announced that the El Monte Union High School District located in Southern California has selected Foundry Networks for their network upgrade to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Voice over IP and wireless networking. Each high school and district office in the school system will be networked together over a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network in which FastIron SuperX convergence-ready edge switches connect to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet core network built using Foundry's BigIron MG8 backbone switches. El Monte is also deploying Foundry's IronPoint 200 access points and wireless networking software to enable wireless network access. El Monte will be implementing a converged Foundry and Mitel voice over IP solution for providing voice services to over 8,000 users across seven high school campuses.
"We selected Foundry over four years ago as our networking partner for implementing a district-wide Ethernet network," Garett McKay, director of information services technology for El Monte Union High School District. "This has been a very positive experience for us and it was natural that we turned to Foundry again as we planned our network upgrade to address new and emerging requirements including wireless access and converged voice-data networking. Foundry has consistently delivered on its commitments to product quality and technology advancement, providing the District with a reliable infrastructure that delivers the flexibility we need today with scalability and future-readiness to meet our needs for years to come."
El Monte's new network will deliver scalable voice, video and data services throughout the multiple high school campuses. As one of the first high school districts to deploy a 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbone, El Monte is a pioneer in the delivery of high-speed data and converged multimedia services throughout a secondary school system.
"We are very pleased to have this opportunity to continue our relationship with El Monte and implement a best-of-breed network that enables the District to introduce new teaching methods and enhance the networking experience for both students and faculty," said Bob Schiff, vice president of product marketing of Foundry Networks. "The El Monte Union High School District is a pioneer in implementing broadband solutions for delivering advanced applications to improve and enrich the quality of education in the public school system. El Monte is an excellent example of the forward-looking organizations that are deploying Foundry's high-performance convergence-ready solutions to empower their business operations."
