Foundry Announces Industry's Most Powerful Denial Of Service Protection Scaling To 10 Gbps On Serveriron Application Switches

Advanced Hardware-Based Application Switch Family Provides Unprecedented Protection against Denial of Service Attacks on Business Application Infrastructure

San Jose, CA, Dec. 13, 2004 – Foundry Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY), a leading provider of high-performance enterprise and service provider switching, routing and application traffic management solutions, announced today that it has doubled the performance of its hardware-based Denial of Service (DoS) SYN-Guard™ security shield on its ServerIron family of Layer 4-7 application switches. ServerIron modular systems implement advanced security algorithms in programmable network processors to achieve the industry's most powerful defense against Denial of Service attacks that can threaten the integrity and availability of data center operations. ServerIron SYN-Guard technology provides massive attack protection and is capable of defending against high-velocity threats at up to 10 Gigabit rates when the application switches are deployed in a high-availability, active-active configuration. Additionally, Foundry has added protection from thirty different types of DoS attacks and security enhancements to its Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB). GSLB provides optimized traffic distribution across multiple data centers including automatic failover in the event of a server or site failure.

The hardware-based SYN-Guard technology enables ServerIron switches to protect data centers and server farms from TCP SYN and ACK attacks while delivering superior application switching performance for legitimate server connections. This breakthrough performance is delivered as part of Release 9.3 of the TrafficWorks® OS allowing new and existing customers to benefit from this advanced level of security performance. TrafficWorks supports a rich set of Layer 4 and Layer 7 content-based load balancing services, high-availability configurations with stateful failover, a suite of over thirty network defense measures including detection and mitigation of DoS attacks and policy-based load balancing for SPAM mitigation. Optional TrafficWorks features include IP Routing and Global Load Balancing for optimizing traffic distribution amongst multiple data center sites.

"We are all too familiar with the harm to productivity and revenue when a data center is compromised by a denial of service attack," said Bob Schiff, vice president and general manager of the Layer 4-7 and Security Products Business Unit at Foundry Networks. "Network attacks are becoming more sophisticated and it is important that the data center manager has a solution that can defend against these attacks while preserving business continuity. ServerIron application switches are architected for this purpose, using advanced algorithms and network processors to defend the business infrastructure while protecting legitimate traffic. These latest security enhancements establish a new standard in the industry allowing enterprise and service provider data centers to sustain operations even under the heaviest of attacks."

Foundry's ServerIron application switches provide sophisticated Internet traffic and content management features including server load balancing, URL and cookie based switching, global server load balancing, and transparent cache switching. ServerIron application switches offer modular expandability and performance upgradeability for maximum investment protection. Some of the world's most demanding customers such as AOL TimeWarner, NTT DoCoMo, and Wachovia Bank rely on Foundry ServerIron systems for server farm scalability and application security.
