Foundry Adds Industry's First Expandable High Density 10/100 And Gigabit Ethernet Application Switch To Award-Winning Family

New Switch Delivers Industry Leading Price-Performance, Density and Advanced Denial of Service Protection for Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Server Farms with Future Expandability

San Jose, CA, Dec. 13, 2004 - Foundry Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY) a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced the expansion of its award-winning ServerIron® GT E-series family of application and traffic management switches with the industry's only purpose-built and expandable high-density 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet switch. The ServerIronGT E2404 switch supports 24 ports of Fast Ethernet and 4 ports of Gigabit Ethernet, and is ideally suited for Fast Ethernet server farm environments that require Gigabit network connectivity with capacity for future growth. The GT E2404 switch shares the advanced features of the other members of the ServerIronGT E-series family including high-performance Layer 4-7 load balancing, content-based application switching and hardware-based protection against denial of service (DoS) attacks. ServerIronGT E-series systems are built on a common system architecture that offers advanced levels of system resilience, support for Gigabit and 10-Gigabit Ethernet port expansion and upgradeable application switch modules for investment protection.

The ServerIronGT E2404 switch features 24 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports, and 4 combination fiber and copper Gigabit Ethernet ports. This combination of high-density 10/100 Ethernet and flexible media options for Gigabit Ethernet uplinks allows the new switch to be deployed in a variety of topologies including in-line and direct server attachment. The GT E2404 switch is powered by Foundry's field-proven TrafficWorks® Operating System (OS), the same operating system used on Foundry's most powerful application switches, the ServerIron 450 and 850. The TrafficWorks OS supports a comprehensive set of Layer 4-7 application switching features and an extensive suite of security features including protection from more than thirty types of denial of service attacks.

The ServerIronGT E-series line of application switches won the "Best Enterprise Infrastructure Product" award at Networld+Interop Tokyo in 2004 for its combination of Layer 2-7 feature integration, attractive pricing, high-availability design, port expandability and performance upgradeability for investment protection. The ServerIronGT E-series products integrate Foundry's innovative JetCore® switching and packet processing technology to achieve high-performance hardware-based switching and routing services. Unlike traditional dual-processor systems, Foundry's advanced design features a dedicated management and control processor to ensure optimal application performance without compromising the ability to manage the device and the server farm even under severe traffic conditions.

"While the migration to Gigabit server farms is well underway, there are many organizations that continue to leverage their investment in 10/100 Ethernet servers for hosting many of their business applications," said Gopala Tumuluri, product line manager for multi-layer switching solutions at Foundry. "The ServerIronGT E-series 2404 model provides industry leading price/performance for these users to deliver secure application switching services on a platform that can accommodate future growth with a seamless path to high-density Gigabit Ethernet and support for upgradeable application switching performance."

Foundry's ServerIron application switches provide sophisticated Internet traffic and content management features including server load balancing, URL and cookie based switching, global server load balancing, and transparent cache switching. ServerIron and ServerIronGT E-series application switches offer modular expandability and performance upgradeability for maximum investment protection. Some of the world's most demanding customers such as AOL TimeWarner, NTT DoCoMo, and Wachovia Bank rely on Foundry ServerIron systems for server farm scalability and application security.
