Foundry's AccessIron WAN Access Routers Win New Customers By Delivering Cost Savings, Security and Improved Performance

San Jose, CA, Sept. 1, 2004 – Foundry Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, today announced that its AccessIron® WAN access routers have been deployed successfully in a number of networks to deliver advanced network services with excellent results. The AccessIron WAN access router is gaining rapid market acceptance due to its rich WAN T1/E1 and T3 functionality, built-in firewall capabilities, optional VPN, small form factor, ease of use and affordability.

Many customers have been looking for alternatives to replace older, existing WAN equipment to support new applications such as video streaming, remote disaster recovery and Voice over IP. The AccessIron platform is delivering high-performance solutions to customers such as firewall, quality of service for Voice over IP, full routing functionality and superior bandwidth utilization at aggressive prices. The AccessIron platform is being deployed both at remote offices and corporate headquarters to connect remote sites and applications and for delivering secure Internet connectivity.

"Reliability and quality are key service objectives at Pembroke Telephone. Our 'g:NET' service supplies our customers with the best Internet service possible," said Steve Rogerson, central office supervisor of Pembroke Telephone, an independent telecommunications operating company located in Pembroke, GA. "After an extensive evaluation, we selected the Foundry AccessIron WAN access router because of its performance, rich routing and built-in firewall features and compelling price. Foundry has consistently delivered products that have exceeded our expectations and helped to improve our services."

Foundry's AccessIron family of WAN routers offers a secure, reliable, manageable and scalable total solution for enterprises and service providers. Foundry Networks' broad AccessIron product family includes customer premises routing equipment and aggregation routing systems. The AccessIron platform is available with a wide variety of flexible port configurations including two, four, eight or 16 ports of T1 or E1 and single or dual clear channel and channelized T3. Connectivity options include fractional T1/E1, NxT1/E1, channelized DS3, sub-rate DS3, and clear-channel DS3/NxDS3, as well as dual fast Ethernet ports. AccessIron systems deliver advanced features, such as OSPF, RIP and RIPv2, and BGP4 routing protocols, a complete Layer 2 software suite including PPP/MLPPP, FR/MFR, HDLC and key applications such as QoS, VLAN tagging/forwarding, NAT, packet filter, VPN, Denial of Service protection and stateful firewall protection. The AccessIron platform is a fixed form factor device which customers have requested to reduce deployment costs and complexity, enhance manageability and achieve lower overall cost of ownership.

"We serve more than 60,000 members and maintain a high standard of service to our customers. We were looking for a enterprise WAN router that would provide excellent throughput and low latency for our VoIP solution," said Chris Herring, director of Network Services for First Future Credit Union. "Foundry Networks' AccessIron products allowed us to deliver our remote Voice over IP solution at an affordable price with no headaches. We found that Foundry AccessIron offers the best value, best performance and ease of use and Foundry worked with us closely to ensure that the product met all of our future needs."

"WAN access routing requirements have increased due to Voice over IP and other advanced business application deployments, and the mitigation of security threats has become a basic requirement for enterprise network infrastructure. We designed our AccessIron products to deliver rich functionality, high performance, reliability and lower overall TCO," said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager of Layer 2/3 switching and routing solutions for Foundry. "We are pleased to see the success of AccessIron routers in the enterprise market.
