Deploy Next-Generation MPLS-Based Services with Foundry's Award-Winning NetIron Family
During the last few years, service providers have shown increasing interest in deploying scalable, high value, MPLS-based Layer 2 and Layer 3 services. Additionally, new trends in large scale enterprise network design resulted in a growing need to leverage such MPLS technologies for improving network versatility, scalability, security, and manageability. MPLS-based Layer 3 VPNs rely on a well established model that delivers scalable, low overhead, routed VPN services to a very large number of sites. In addition, in recent years, MPLS-based Layer 2 VPNs emerged as scalable and flexible technologies that deliver end-to-end Layer 2 services with superior cost efficiency and scalability when compared to legacy ATM, Frame Relay, and TDM leased lines. Chief among these are two MPLS-based technologies, Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) and Virtual Leased Line (VLL) that offer the power of delivering scalable multi-point and point-to-point services respectively. Service providers can use these technologies to offer advanced services to their customers such as managed VPN services and efficient metro aggregation.

Layer 2 or Layer 3 VPNs?
Foundry's NetIron XMR Series and NetIron MLX Series routers allow the concurrent deployment of MPLS-based Layer 2 VPNs, Layer 3 VPNs, and Multi-VRF VPNs. This unparalleled flexibility raises a natural question: Which technology should a provider use when choosing a VPN strategy? This paper provides a detailed comparison of Layer 2 VPNs and Layer 3 VPNs and assists a network designer in determining the right solution.

Accelerate Time to Revenue by Simplifying the Provisioning of MPLS Networks
Managing MPLS networks requires the use of advanced tools to ensure rapid and efficient service activation across the entire MPLS domain. Typical MPLS networks are multi-vendor networks and service providers seldom have the resources and time to train operational staff in the intricacies of managing each piece of equipment. For providers planning to migrate to MPLS, operational staff may perceive complexities in the provisioning of MPLS networks. Foundry Networks and MetaSolv Software offer a cohesive, best-of-breed solution that simplifies the provisioning of MPLS networks. This enables service providers to accelerate time to revenue by efficiently deploying highly differentiated IP, MPLS, and Ethernet services.
