Foundry Flash - February 2007

Welcome to the February 2007 Edition of Foundry Flash!

Differentiated Services Flourish with MPLS

Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is helping usher in sophisticated business services. Similar to Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Frame Relay, MPLS allows traffic engineering that prevents congestion on networks. MPLS switches assign labels to traffic based on its destination, type of service, or other criteria. In the enterprise, MPLS can prioritize voice traffic or other business-critical traffic on a converged network. Service providers are deploying on MPLS so they can offer VPNs for basic data connectivity, multi-service VPNS for multiple traffic types, and differentiated services with service level agreements.

Deploying MPLS with Foundry Solutions
Foundry offers multiple MPLS switches for service providers and enterprises. The NetIron XMR passed interoperability testing at ISOCORE for a variety of Layer 2 and Layer 3 services, including BGP/MPLS VPN, Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS), Virtual Leased Line (Pseudo-wire) services and more.

NetIron XMRDesigned to meet the standards of a new class of IPv4/IPv6/MPLS routers, the NetIron XMR is built for the emerging broadband service provider infrastructure. The routers bolster the foundation for multi-play services, as well as converged backbone and broadband VPN offerings that will define next generation service provider networks.
